Upcoming Weekend Workshops

February 23: Sunday Swing Sessions with Kathleen & Charla (Level 1)

Topic: 8-Count Crash Course

Details. This will be an intensive crash course in understanding 8-count patterns in Lindy Hop aimed at those new to swing dancing, anyone wanting to work on fundamentals, and anyone interested in switching roles.  We'll go over basic rhythms, patterns, and partner connection to get you started on the social dance floor.  No partner necessary, as we'll rotate partners for those comfortable doing so..

Format: We’ll teach an intensive two-hour workshop 3-5pm as usual, but we'll stick around until 6pm for some social dancing afterwards to allow more time for questions, practice, and reinforcement.

Pricing: $50 in advance (prepaying by noon on Saturday, February 22nd), $60 otherwise

March 30: Sunday Swing Sessions with John & Shoshi (All Levels)

Topic: Winter Blues

Instructors: John & Shoshi Krieger-Joven.  John & Shoshi are longtime dancers throughout NYC and lucky for us, they're now based on Long Island!  Their teaching is grounded in the blues aesthetic, physical expression of the emotions of the music, solid technique, and the joy of movement. They teach students to find their own styles, voices, and ways of moving within the fundamentals of the dance and the conversation between partners.  You can check out Shoshi competing here in a Mix & Match in Boston, both John and Shoshi competing with different partners here, and both of them dancing all over the city in this promo video from Blues Dance New York. If you enjoy blues music or are looking for ideas you can try out when the music slows down, this workshop is for you!

Format: John & Shoshi will teach an intensive two-hour workshop 3-5pm as usual, but we'll stick around until 6pm for some social dancing afterwards to allow more time for questions, practice, and reinforcement.

Pricing: $50 in advance (prepaying by noon on Saturday, March 29th), $60 otherwise

Location: All weekend workshops are held at 375 Dance Studio (375 Westbury Avenue in Carle Place).  Parking is available in the studio parking lot, and on Sundays there's typically plenty of space on the street as well.  Please be kind to the neighbors and do not block their driveways.

Payment: PayPal (to Charla Lambert), Venmo (@Charla-Lambert), or cash

Preregistration: We encourage everyone who can to please preregister, as it helps us greatly with planning, logistics, and finances.

How do I preregister? You can reserve a spot in class and help ensure it's held by paying for it ahead of time via PayPal, Venmo, or cash.

Do I need a partner? No! In all workshops where partners are required, we’ll rotate partners for everyone comfortable doing so.

Questions? Please contact Charla or Kathleen if you have questions.  You can email liswingsyndicate@gmail.com, message either of us on any platform, contact LISS on social media or through this website, and/or call 516-778-JAZZ (listed in the footer of this site).  Please note that we sublease space from the dance studio, so calling the studio directly will not be the most efficient way of contacting us.

Covid precautions: Covid vaccines are no longer mandated for indoor LISS classes, and masks are optional but always welcome.
