Upcoming Weekend Workshops

February 25: Sunday Swing Sessions with Carol (Level 2)

Charleston Charleston Charleston!

This will be an intensive workshop on Charleston rhythms, vocabulary, and and integration with Lindy Hop while social dancing. We’ll review basic Charleston rhythms and concepts, then move quickly into more advanced patterns and show how they can be woven together with Lindy Hop on the social dance floor.  No partner necessary, as we'll rotate partners for those comfortable doing so. Be sure to check out some of Charleston choreography beforehand as performed by LISS teams here (and some behind-the-scenes practice here!).

Instructor: Carol Fraser.  Founding LISS member and long-time dance instructor, Carol always has a surprise or two up her sleeve for even the most seasoned of dancers and swing dance students. You're in for a treat with this class, so get ready to dance!

Extended format:  Carol will teach an intensive two-hour workshop 3-5pm as usual, but we'll stick around until 6pm for some social dancing afterwards to allow more time for questions, practice, and reinforcement.

Prerequisites: Some experience with Lindy Hop and/or Charleston required.  This class will not be suitable for brand-new dancers, those new to swing dancing, those who have little experience partner dancing, and/or those who have never danced 8-count Lindy or Charleston.  Please contact us if you aren't sure whether this workshop is for you.

Pricing: $50 in advance (prepaying by noon on Saturday, February 24th), $60 otherwise

March 17: Sunday Swing Sessions with Kathleen & Charla (Level 1)

A St. Patrick's Day Crash Course for New Swing Dancers!

This will be an intensive two-hour crash course just for beginners, those new to swing dancing, anyone wanting to work on fundamentals, and anyone interested in switching roles.  We'll go over basic rhythms, patterns, and partner connection to get you started on the social dance floor.  No partner necessary, as we'll rotate partners for those comfortable doing so. There may be corned beef cabbage for all, and there will certainly be Irish soda bread!

Instructors: Kathleen & Charla, aka Long Island's own Lucy & Ethel

Regular format: We’ll teach an intensive two-hour workshop 3-5pm as usual

Pricing: $35 in advance (prepaying by noon on Saturday, March 16th), $40 otherwise

April 21: Sunday Swing Sessions with Elena (Level 2)

Topic: Favorite Moves of Frankie Manning, the Ambassador of Lindy Hop

Instructor: Elena Iannucci. The one, the only, the very original Elena from Dance Manhattan will be leading the class! Elena learned from Frankie himself while dancing with New York City's Big Apple Lindy Hoppers, and she is only too happy to help share his moves, his love for the dance, and his love of life. Join us for a workshop featuring some of Frankie's favorite moves, and be sure to check him out in action in this video ahead of time at age 81!

Extended format: Elena will teach an intensive two-hour workshop 3-5pm as usual, but we'll stick around until 6pm for some social dancing afterwards to allow more time for questions, practice, and reinforcement.

Prerequisites: This will be pre-intermediate level workshop. You'll need a strong knowledge of 6-count swing, a basic knowledge of 8-count shapes and swingouts, and experience living it up on the social dance floor. This workshop will not be suitable for brand-new dancers, those new to swing, or those who have little experience partner dancing.

Pricing: $50 in advance (prepaying by noon on Saturday, April 20th), $60 otherwise

Location: All weekend workshops are held at 375 Dance Studio (375 Westbury Avenue in Carle Place).  Parking is available in the studio parking lot, and on Sundays there's typically plenty of space on the street as well.  Please be kind to the neighbors and do not block their driveways.

Payment: PayPal (to Charla Lambert), Venmo (@Charla-Lambert), or cash

Preregistration: We encourage everyone who can to please preregister, as it helps us greatly with planning, logistics, and finances.

How do I preregister? You can reserve a spot in class and help ensure it's held by paying for it ahead of time via PayPal, Venmo, or cash.

Questions? Please contact Charla, Kathleen, or TJ if you have questions.  You can email liswingsyndicate@gmail.com, message any of us on any platform, contact LISS on social media or through this website, and/or call 516-778-JAZZ (listed in the footer of this site).  Please note that we sublease space from the dance studio, so calling the studio directly will not be the most efficient way of contacting us.

Covid precautions: Covid vaccines are no longer mandated for indoor LISS classes, masks are encouraged but optional.
