Upcoming Weekend Workshops

April 13: Sunday Swing Sessions with Kathleen & Charla (Level 1)

Topic: 8-Count Crash Course

Details. This will be an intensive crash course in understanding 8-count patterns in Lindy Hop aimed at those new to swing dancing, anyone wanting to work on fundamentals, and anyone interested in switching roles.  We'll go over basic rhythms, patterns, and partner connection to get you started on the social dance floor.

Format: We’ll teach an intensive two-hour workshop 3-5pm as usual, but we'll stick around until 6pm for some social dancing afterwards to allow more time for questions, practice, and reinforcement. If you came to the February crash course, we’ll be teaching different vocabulary in this one to make it worth your while!

Pricing: $50 in advance (prepaying by noon on Saturday, April 12th), $60 otherwise

MAY 18: Sunday Swing Sessions with CAROL (LEVEL 2)

Topic: Rhythms & Musicality

Instructor: Carol Fraser.  Founding LISS member and long-time dance instructor, Carol always has a surprise or two up her sleeve for even the most seasoned of dancers and swing dance students. You're in for a treat with this class, so get ready to dance! This will be a deep-dive into varying the rhythms in your footwork when social dancing to express what you hear in the music. Carol will start with the standard 6- and 8-count rhythms in Lindy Hop, then show how they can be mixed into a variety of different rhythms, including breaks in the music, while expressing what you hear and maintaining good connection with your partner.

Prerequisites: This will be an intermediate-level workshop. It won't be suitable for brand-new dancers or those new to partner dancing.  Feel free to contact us if you're unsure whether this workshop is right for you.

June 8: Sunday Swing Sessions with Elena (LEVEL 2)

Topic: Favorite Moves of Frankie Manning, the Ambassador of Lindy Hop

Instructor: Elena Iannucci  The one, the only, the very original Elena from Dance Manhattan will be leading the class! Elena learned from Frankie Manning himself while dancing with New York City's Big Apple Lindy Hoppers, and she is only too happy to help share his moves, his love for the dance, and his love of life. Join us for a workshop featuring some of Frankie's favorite moves, and be sure to check him out in action in this video ahead of time at age 81!

You'll need a strong knowledge of 6-count swing, a basic knowledge of 8-count shapes and swingouts, and experience living it up on the social dance floor. Location: All weekend workshops are held at 375 Dance Studio (375 Westbury Avenue in Carle Place).  Parking is available in the studio parking lot, and on Sundays there's typically plenty of space on the street as well.  Please be kind to the neighbors and do not block their driveways.

Payment: PayPal (to Charla Lambert), Venmo (@Charla-Lambert), or cash

Preregistration: We encourage everyone who can to please preregister, as it helps us greatly with planning, logistics, and finances.

How do I preregister? You can reserve a spot in class and help ensure it's held by paying for it ahead of time via PayPal, Venmo, or cash.

Do I need a partner? No! In all workshops where partners are required, we’ll rotate partners for everyone comfortable doing so.

Questions? Please contact Charla or Kathleen if you have questions.  You can email liswingsyndicate@gmail.com, message either of us on any platform, contact LISS on social media or through this website, and/or call 516-778-JAZZ (listed in the footer of this site).  Please note that we sublease space from the dance studio, so calling the studio directly will not be the most efficient way of contacting us.

Covid precautions: Covid vaccines are no longer mandated for indoor LISS classes, and masks are optional but always welcome.
